Botanical lithograph from the Flores des Serres series depicting Amaryllis, created in 1845 by Louis Benoît van Houtte. Louis Benoît van Houtte (1810–1876) was a Belgian botanist and horticulturist who founded nurseries and contributed to Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe, a landmark 23-volume colored lithograph series published from 1845 onward. The Flores des Serres plates, edited with Charles Lemaire and M. Scheidweiler, document European horticulture and exotic plants cultivated in van Houtte’s networks. This Amaryllis plate reflects the mid-19th-century botanical illustration tradition.
Excellent condition; certificate on the back as described.
