Description

Traditional spirit mask from Papua New Guinea’s Sepik River region, representing a Mei (also spelled Mwai) spirit. The mask features a carved wooden face with painted natural pigment coloring and densely inlaid cowrie shells along the borders and upper facial areas.

The perimeter is framed with a woven fiber element that creates a decorative “hair” effect around the mask.
