Sovereign of the Seas is a signed pencil drawing with etching-like cross-hatching on paper, depicting a full-rigged three-masted ship navigating stylized seas. The composition centers on the vessel, with the title inscribed along the lower margin and the artist’s signature in the bottom-right; the work measures 11.5 inches wide by 9 inches high and is framed under glass with a white mat for gallery or collector display. Provenance: Vendor Miss Daisy's Consignment & Auction House.
Charles Wilson (also referenced as Charles J. A. Wilson, 1880–1965) was a marine painter and etcher active in the early to mid-20th century. He produced naval- and marine-themed works and served in the U.S. Navy. Wilson studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, contributing to a body of maritime subject matter that reflects a traditional, cross-hatched etching style and a focus on historic sailing craft.
